David Hoffman is UMBC’s assistant director of student life for civic agency.
Students, faculty and staff from across the Maryland-DC region will convene at UMBC on Saturday, April 6, 2013 for the sixth annual Service-Learning and Civic Engagement Conference, co-sponsored by the Baltimore Collegetown Network, Maryland-DC Campus Compact, UMBC and the Shriver Center. This year’s theme is Community-Based Learning: Getting Real about Civic Engagement, and the format will showcase BreakingGround as a strategy for building engagement across an entire university.
UMBC President Freeman A. Hrabowski, III and American Association of State Colleges and Universities Vice President George Mehaffy will speak at the conference. Mehaffy launched the American Democracy Project, a national initiative in which UMBC has been an active participant.
The conference planning committee is accepting proposals for workshop sessions relating to community partnerships, social change leadership and service learning. For more information, visit the conference website. The proposal deadline is this Friday, January 18, 2013.
